HCD and King Hussein Business Park Sign Memorandum of Understanding

In line with its principles of sustainability and inclusive innovation, the King Hussein Business Park (KHBP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) aiming at promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and achieving qualitative steps towards their full inclusion in society by providing them with comprehensive support in the KHBP environment and ensuring independent access to its various facilities and services.

The MoU was signed by His Royal Highness Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein, Lord Chamberlain and President of HCD, and Engineer Ammar Izzeddin, CEO of KHBP.

The MoU outlines cooperation to make accessible existing buildings in KHBP, and plan future facilities and installations in line with the Building Code Requirements for Persons with Disabilities. The collaboration also includes providing a modern and inclusive urban environment that includes the requirements of all without exception, activating cooperation in mainstreaming persons with disabilities in the labour market, and exchanging relevant data to enhance employment opportunities within the KHBP.

Per the MoU’s provisions, HCD will provide technical support, specialised consultations, and support to help the KHBP prepare its infrastructure to ensure that it takes into account the accessibility requirements for persons with disabilities. In addition, HCD will train KHBP staff on the human rights approach, effective communication, and ensuring equal opportunities in the workplace.

The Prince called for providing accessibility and accommodations, creating a work-conducive environment, and removing barriers to ensure access to employment opportunities for people with disabilities. He stressed the importance of adopting a participatory approach among all relevant authorities to implement the provisions of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, especially with regard to the ten-year plan to rectify existing buildings and public facilities.

For his part, Engineer Ammar Izzeddin stated that this cooperation aligns with KHBP’s vision as an integrated community that redefines the concept of an innovative inclusive environment measured not only by smart infrastructure, but also by the creation of an environment that paves the way for future opportunities and opens up horizons for people to live and work seamlessly, where smart design meets a sustainable urban model that embraces diversity and respects the rights of all.

KHBP will embark on a comprehensive two-year action plan that includes renovating existing facilities, upgrading sidewalks and entrances, ensuring all future buildings comply with relevant national and international standards, and upgrading public services to create a more conducive environment.

This step follows the launch of the expansion project under the second, third and fourth phase development plan, which aims to develop mixed-use investment spaces to provide a sustainable environment and an inclusive community that integrates all elements to support business operations and meet the requirements of modern needs for individuals and companies, in parallel with the implementation and rehabilitation of the project's infrastructure and the official commencement of the project.
