Council’s Role
The Council is
a national institution concerned
with policy setting, enacting
legislation, advocating for the
rights of persons with disabilities
through coordination and networking
with different parties.
Objectives
The Council
aims to implement the National
Strategy of Persons with
Disabilities: a future view (2007 –
2015) that was launched by His
Majesty King Abdullah П bin Al-
Hussein. Moreover, it aims to ensure
the effective implementation of the
Law on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities number (31) for the
year (2007) and to incorporate
disability issues within the
national policies and plans of the
state of Jordan.
The Council also aims to ensure the
effective implementation of the
International Convention on the
Right of Persons with Disabilities
that was ratified by the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan in the years 2007
and 2008 successively.
Furthermore , the Council aims to
improve the quality of life for
persons with disabilities and to
enable them to lead a decent and
productive life in a society where
equity and equality prevail .It also
aims to improve the self image of
the person with disability and
reinforce confidence in the
abilities, potentials and
contributions of persons with
disabilities in addition to raising
the society awareness of the and
changing the negative stereotype
view of disabilities to get to a
barrier free society.
The Council also aims to improve the
level and quality of all services
provided to persons with
disabilities to take advantages
taking into consideration individual
and gender differences. The council
aims at combating discrimination to
achieve equity, equal opportunities
and independence with special
emphasis on self reliance, effective
participation and inclusion in the
community life.
Tasks
1. Following
up the implementation of the
National Strategy of the Persons
with Disabilities.
2.
Setting inclusive policies
on disability, to review through
following up implementation and
coordinating in order to unify all
efforts aiming at improving the
standard and living conditions of
persons with disabilities as well as
facilitating integration in the
society.
3. Taking
part, with other concerned parties,
in laying down a national and
comprehensive awareness plan to cut
down the number of disabilities
alleviate its severity and stop its
gravity.
4. Laying
down the necessary criteria to
ensure the quality of programs and
services provided for persons with
disabilities while coordinating with
concerned parties.
5. Participating
in achieving the objectives of
International agreements,
conventions and pacts related to
persons with disabilities ratified
by the Kingdom.
6.
Establishing a pioneer
national centers and research
studies, in addition to build up a
database concerned with the affairs
of persons with disabilities
7. Setting
up plans for providing funds to the
programs and activities for persons
with disabilities.
