What is the Council?

 
 

An independent national institution that has been founded in accordance to the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities No. (31) for the year 2007; it is  the legal umbrella to follow up and support persons with disabilities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan .

A Jordanian society where persons with disabilities have a sustainable dignified life based on effective participation, respect and justice.

 
     
 

What is the mission of the Council ?

 
  • Setting up, reviewing and following up the implementation of policies related to persons with disabilities.

  • Setting up a national and comprehensive awareness plan.

  • Following up the implementation of the National Disability Strategy items.

  • Recommending amendments for the legislations related to persons with disability.

  • Creating necessary standards to ensure program and service quality provided for persons with disabilities.

  • Participating in the efforts to achieve the objective of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities signed and ratified by the Kingdom.

  • Cooperating with parties concerned with the Council objectives.

  • Setting up national training and research centers in addition to establishing a database on disability.

  • Representing the Kingdom in regional and international conferences concerned with disabilities.

 

Does the Council give any direct financial aid for persons with disabilities?

No. Yet the Council supports governmental and nongovernmental centers so person with disability can receive the required support like (mobility equipments, hearing aids, supporting tools for persons with visual disabilities, speech therapy, physiotherapy and supporting critical difficult medical cases.(

Are there any other communication channels between the Council and other formal bodies?

Yes. There are liaison officers with some ministries who are responsible for following up the implementation of the strategy related to disabilities.

 

What is the mechanism in providing funds to the Council?

In accordance with article (15) of the Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities, financial resources are from designated allocations in the national state budget, fees, grants and donations, in addition to aids from international grants.

How can persons with disabilities make use of the services provided by the Council?

By registering their names at the Council where it refers to services providers.
