Media competition on issues and rights of persons with disabilities
Under the patronage of HRH Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein, President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), the Council announces the launch of a media competition aimed at presenting creative media products that contribute to raising awareness of the rights and issues of persons with disabilities and mainstreaming them into society. 8 winners will be selected at the end of the competition. The winners will be announced on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2021.
The aim of the competition:
The competition aims at spreading awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities, and motivate media professionals to address disability issues and priorities, in addition to spreading awareness among media professionals about dealing with disability issues from a human rights perspective.

Media products that can be shared:
The competition includes submitting humanitarian stories and media reports relating to the lived experiences and issues of persons with disabilities by submitting:
• Written media products
• Audio media products
• Visual media products (report, videos…etc)
• Drama productions
Contest terms and conditions:
• Media products must be designed in accordance with the human rights approach, and competitors can use the Guide on Media Coverage of Issues of Persons with Disabilities as a reference, produced by HCD. The said guide can be accessed via the following link: http://www.hcd.gov.jo/sites/default/files/Media%20Guide_0_0.pdf
• Use of rights terminology. (Applicants may refer to the aforementioned guide).
• Refrain from addressing issues in a manner that may offend persons with disabilities.
• Obtain the consent of the person with a disability if the story deals with a particular character.
• The applicant may submit more than one media product.
• The submitted media product must have been published in a visual, print or audio media outlet within a media institution during the years 2020 and 2021, or it must have been published on social media if it is a work of theatre or drama.
• Several media professionals may apply for this competition as a team, submitting a joint product.
Applicants conditions:
• Applicants must be residing in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, regardless of nationality.
• No specific age is required.
• Applicants must have a passion and interest in disability issues.
Evaluation Criteria:
• Accuracy of information
• Comprehensiveness and inclusive
• Style and approach of coverage/illustration.
• Adopting a human rights approach
• Supportive illustrative data and photos
• Modern and innovative
Language:
Languages used in media products:
• Arabic
• English
Contest topics:
Media products should address disability issues.
Arbitration:
The arbitration will be conducted by a neutral committee of media professionals who specialize in audio-visual, written and drama media, in addition to specialists in the rights of persons with disabilities.
Awards
There will be two prizes for each of the topics, whereby the first winner for each topic will receive a cash prize of JOD 2500, and the second winner will receive a cash prize of JOD 1750, and the third winner will receive a cash prize of JOD 1000 (i.e. three prizes for each of the written, visual, audio, and drama topics).
The deadline of receiving the media products is the end of the closing day on Sunday November 7, 2021
